Varanasi: Second Impressions

We all know that first impressions aren’t always correct.

Earlier today, I wrote that there didn’t seem to be as many women out on the streets in Varanasi as there were in the south.  Well, it turns out that they don’t come out until later in the day.

When we made our second trek down to the riverside today, this time to watch the Ganga Aarti ceremony,* there were many more women out than there had been in the morning.  Presumably, in the morning they were taking care of getting-their-families-ready-for-the-day things.  And, as it was slightly warmer this evening, there were fewer coats and much more color to be seen.  So, I apologize for any misinformation I have spread in the guise of my hasty impressions.

*Blog post coming soon.  I have to wait until Joan air drops some photos.
