A bit about our apartment before I begin regaling you with tales of Amsterdam as see through our four, myopic eyes.
It is within sight (hang out the window and look to your right) of the central rail station; so, very convenient. You enter from Warmoesstraat, which is just one street to the west of the red-light district; so, very convenient, at least for some. It rises directly up from the canal that forms the little harbor for the various canal cruise boats; so, very convenient. And, you look out over the water to the Damrak where all the trams, city buses, and tourist buses have stops; so, very convenient.
It is a fabulous location. Our windows are like a very large screen television with boats gliding sedately by, trams, buses and cars driving past, bicyclists zipping along, people stolling, and many gulls swooping about adding a dash of salt and pepper to the stew of activity.
In spite of the activity outside, the apartment itself is quiet and calm due in large part to the double glazing of the windows and the aesthetic sensibilities of the owners who have decorated the apartment in a very spare modern, but comfortable, style.
It would seem that we got lucky with the VRBO website once again. Here are a few photos. Remember, if you click, or double click, on the first photo, they will pop up in a big, scrolling format.
